One of the original super models, Gisele Bunchen, 34, is set to retire this week ending two decades on the catwalk. Giselle arrived in London in 1997 from Brazil and after auditioning for 42 shows she got her big break walking for Alexander McQueen Spring 1998 ‘Rain’ ready to wear show; chosen for her ability to walk on a slippery runway in towering heels. By 1998 Gisele had established herself as a ‘Super’ securing for her first Vogue cover, becoming the most in demand cover girl of her generation.
Gisele has fronted many campaigns such as Missoni, Chloé, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Gianfranco Ferré, Ralph Lauren, and Versace campaigns.
Her last catwalk show will be for Colchhi at Sao Paulo Fashion Week in Brazil. Gisele married Tom Brady in 2009 and on announcing her retirement from the catwalk, she wanted to concentrate on being mum to Benjamin and Vivian and focus on her print campaigns. Speaking to a Brazilian newspaper Folia de Sao Paulo, she said, ” I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop. I don’t see how to continue modeling on the catwalk”.
Since 2004 Giselle has been the highest paid model in the world and listed by Forbes the 89th most powerful woman in the world, we cant wait to see what’s next from our favorite Super Model.
