If Anna Wintour announces a new fashion rule, you stick to it right? Well, not the A-list fashionista’s that attended the 2015 Met Gala. The American Vogue editor and all-round high priestess of fashion declared this year’s ball a strictly social media free zone – yep, that means no selfies – but the celeb crowd dared to disobey her order, and took quite possibly the most snaps we’ve ever seen at one single event!
The fashion event of 2015, it saw a host of our favourite celebs in attendance. Rebelling against the ban, the A-lister’s took to Instagram and Twitter in their droves, all desperate to upload the most talked about snap of the evening. Kim Kardashian was by far the selfie queen of ball; well, her selfie book ‘Selfish’ is about to be released, so she knows what she’s doing. Kim snapped countless pics of herself, obvs, showcasing her stunning Roberto Cavalli by Peter Dundas dress and cosying up to none other than Cher – her style inspo for the evening – and Madonna.
The award for best group selfie has to go to Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn’s epic bathroom shot which almost eclipsed Ellen’s iconic Oscar group shot. And lets not forget the outfit that sparked the funniest red carpet memes of the night – Rihanna’s ‘Guo Pei Couture’ robe coat. The enormous canary yellow gown was compared to everything from a pizza and an omelette to a scene from ‘Lord Of The Rings’ and The Yellow Brick Road. Despite the internet LOL’s, the embroidered show-stopper took four assistants to help carry it up the stairs and totally ticked off the Gala’s Chinese theme in typical stand-out Rihanna style.
We can’t stop talking about all the other best-dressed celebs at the gala either, which cost a whopping $25,000 a ticket to attend. Did you see Beyonce’s knockout Givenchy couture dress? Rumour has it Queen B intentionally arrived late to ensure all eyes were on her – not that she needed any help in that department. Talk about saving the best to last. Then there was Sarah Jessica Parker’s Phillip Tracey head-piece, which also had its fair share of hilarious memes. Our faves have to be the comparison to a flame and devilish comic book character Aku.
Anyway, we could go on and on about our favourite Met Gala moments, but instead we’ve put together the best and the funniest sneaky social media snaps from the night for your viewing pleasure – memes included. Lolz…
