It’s that time of year again when it’s all about the boys. That’s right, menswear fashion week is officially in full swing after kicking off with London Collections: Men over the weekend. It’s one of our favourite times of year. Not only do we get to a sneak peak at all of the new season must-haves we have every intention of stealing from our other halves, we also get to hang out with some of the world’s top male models, not to mention ogle over David Gandy for three days straight.
After seventy-seven shows, countless presentations and a fair few parties thrown in for good measure, London Collections: Men officially came to a close yesterday and we have to admit, we’re pretty sad – we loved every minute of it.
Now in its seventh season, this week’s festivities were particularly special as it marked the event upsizing from three to four days and it’s just as well. Canadian fashion duo Dsquared2 joined the schedule for the first time after years showing in Milan; Idris Elba made a splashy debut with a special collaboration with Superdry and Spencer Hart returned to the catwalk with a collection inspired by Stevie Wonder. It didn’t end there either. Highlights over the last few days include the arrival of the legend that is Tommy Hilfiger showing his latest collection and Henry Holland unveiling his debut menswear line too.
We can’t talk about the best moments of London Collections: Men without talking about Burberry. Always the hottest ticket in town, the show delivered a dapper collection we’d happily add to our own collection and a FROW that included Samuel L Jackson and David Furnish along with regulars like Tiny Tempah, Suki Waterhouse and Dermot O’Leary.
David Gandy sightings aside, what makes London Collection: Men so special is just how diverse the designers are. One minute you’re watching suave tailoring from heavyweights like Gieves & Hawkes, Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen, and the next models are storming down the runway in streetwear at KTZ or wearing bum-exposing trousers at Sibling (yes, that really happened).
So while we put our feet up and catch our breath, here we bring you a round up of some of the highlights that made our week. Enjoy!
