Zayn Malik was a no show at the Capital FM Summertime Ball at the weekend. And when he revealed why, our hearts broke for him
The 23-year-old was due to perform in London on Saturday, marking the first time he would appear at a gig alongside ex-girlfriend Perrie Edwards, with Little Mix also on the line-up.
But an hour and a half before he was supposed to go on stage, Zayn wrote a heartbreaking Instagram post to fans explaining why he wouldn’t be turning up.
‘Unfortunately my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me’, the former One Direction star wrote.
‘With the magnitude of the event I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career. I cannot apologise enough but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me, I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I’ve let down today.’
Zayn added: ‘I know those who suffer anxiety will understand and I hope those who don’t can empathises with my situation.’
Aw. Anxiety affects millions of people a year, so we’re so glad Zayn’s brave enough to speak out about it.
And girlfriend Gigi Hadid (yep, they’re definitely back on), showed just how proud she was of her man by a social media post of her own.
Taking to Twitter to gush about Zayn’s bravery, the model wrote: ‘Z – I’ve seen the battles you go through and the way you fight to get to a place that allows you to get up there for your fans.
‘Your bravery in those times makes me proud, but your honesty last night proved what you’re all about, being real. Human recognises human. You made the best of the situation and have given your fans an opportunity to understand you better as a performer.
‘Those who can find compassion now are the ones who deserve to watch you continue to grow. We are all here to support you and make each experience easier. Your talent and good heart will never lead you wrong. Love you and so proud of you always 🙂 G.’
We’re with Gigi on this one. Malik then followed up by thanking his fans, family and friends for being so understanding, tweeting: ‘Thank you for your kind messages of support. It means a lot. X’.
