All three are nominated in the same category...
We could be set for a pretty awkward BRIT Awards.
Perrie Edwards’ group Little Mix are going head-to-head against her ex-fiancé Zayn Malik in the British Artist Video category – and One Direction are also in the mix.
Yep. LM have been nominated for Hair, while Zayn’s up for Pillowtalk and 1D have been honoured for History.
But one person who’s keen to downplay the rivalry is Louis Tomlinson. If you cast your minds back to when Zayn left One Direction back in 2015, you’ll remember that things got pretty tense between the pair.
Last May, Zayn told Louis to stop making ‘b*****’ comments about his life, while Louis ended up in a vicious Twitter spat with Zayn’s then-collaborator Naughty Boy.
After that, Zayn labelled One Direction’s music as ‘generic as f***’ in an interview with Fader magazine.
But the 24-year-old extended an olive branch to his old pal when Louis’ mum Johannah Deakin passed away in December.
Zayn Tweeted: ‘@Louis_Tomlinson love you bro! All of your family is in my prayers. proud of your strength and know your mum is too x.’
A source then told the Daily Mirror: ‘Zayn has been in touch with Louis privately, and will continue to offer his support that way.’
Now Louis has repaid the favour, congratulating Zayn on his BRITs nominations during a recorded segment of The Brits Are Coming on Saturday night.
He said: ‘Zayn had an absolute smash with Pillowtalk.
‘It’s a weird feeling to see us all on our own but it’s also nice to feel that you’ve got the support of the other lads!’
It’s actually been a pretty successful round of nominations for both Zayn and Little Mix.
Pillowtalk is also up for British Single, and Little Mix are competing in the same category with Shout Out To My Ex. Which, incidentally, is rumoured to be about Zayn. Eep.
LM are also fighting for British Group.
But while organisers may be trying to seat Zayn and Perrie, 23, as far away from each other as possible, we’re sure they’re mature enough to focus on the music.
Ooh. We’re already excited for 22 February.
