Sunday’s Love Island was always going to be an emotional one.
With two new girls landing in the villa to cause mischief and Zara finally being told that she’s been stripped of her Miss GB crown (sob), there was plenty of bombshells to keep the islanders (and us at home) on edge.
But, there was one revelation that we really weren’t prepared for.
Yup, it’s official, Zara Holland has QUIT the ITV2 show. And it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with that controversial decision from the Miss Great Britain Organisation.
In a statement released by the TV show, it has been revealed: ‘Owing to an illness in the family, Zara Holland has left the Love Island villa to return to the UK. Our thoughts are with her and her family and we send all of our best wishes.’
Zara explained, ‘I’m so sad to leave the villa but it’s important for me to get home and spend time with my mum while she gets better.
‘I’ve had the time of my life on Love Island and would like to thank all of my fellow Islanders and the production team for all their support.’
Producers have said that they will keep the door open for Zara, who’s been part of the show since the very beginning of this series, should she wish to return.
It’s no secret that Zara was hurt when she found out that she’d lost her crown, following a night with newcomer Alex in the hideaway.
But it seems that, since leaving the island, she’s taken comfort in the support from viewers.
She tweeted: ‘….knowing I’ve got incredible support makes me feel very humble. Thank u so much’.
We’re really hoping that Zara’s mum gets better soon.
And we’ll be holding out for a Zara comeback. Because, how amazing would that be?
