Many of us can’t start the day without a cup of coffee, and nursing one of those lovely little takeaway cups en route to work knowing there’s a steaming hot caffeine fix waiting inside is one of the best feelings ever.
But many people are a little cross at a certain very popular coffee chain, because hang on a minute, have we been being conned?!
A video posted by builder Paul Hopkinson has been doing the rounds on Facebook, and has now been watched over 11 million times. Why?
It shows that the contents of a lage cup of Costa coffee actually fits perfectly into a regular sized cup. Hmm. So why have we been paying that extra 30p, exactly?
Well, thanks to the video going viral, Costa has now had its say. And the chain insists that we’re getting a fair deal.
‘Hi Paul, thanks for taking the time to send in your video! Despite what it looks like I can assure you you’re not being duped in any way’, the reply from Costa read.
‘The regular cup is a 12oz and the large is a 16oz so there is 4 fluid oz in size difference. Plus you also get the extra shot of coffee, hence the price difference!’
Costa continued: ‘Also for safety reasons there is no way we would be able to fill the cup that high as it would end up burning someone.’
Kind of makes sense to us. Those extra pennies buy you an extra coffee shot? We’ll take that.
Still, power to the people for calling these things out. Let us know your thoughts below…
