The video shows pop-star-turned-designer RiRi walking us through some of her favourite looks and editing original sketches as the Right Now singer makes the finishing touches to her second range for the high-street brand. Featuring lashings of camoflauge print, plenty of comfy grey sweats and New York-inspired fur-trimmed bomber jackets, Rihanna’s new collection has got us praying for rainy days so that we can start working her ghetto-fabulous garms.
Co-designer Adam Selman let slip on what else we can expect from the 25-year-old Bajan beauty’s brand new collection. “We had a lot more fun this time round,” he told Vogue.
“The first collection was a lot purer, about finding pieces that Rihanna felt were missing from her closet. There is a real concept to this one. I can’t give too much away, but we travel so much and experience so much of the world. We’re very lucky to do so and that definitely inspired us. The idea of sports uniforms and masculine vs feminine is something we evolved from last season too.”
And as the video proves, RiRi made sure she was heavily involved every step of the way. “She has a very strong point of view and is very precise – I think I’ll keep those sketches she gave me forever,” Selman said.
“There are coats and sweatshirts – those pieces were key”, he added. “It’s a little more refined. She [also] loves going out, that’s her thing. She really wanted to create dresses that girls want to party in around the Christmas season. The fit and silhouette is very important to her. She knows what she’s talking about.”
The Rihanna for River Island AW13 collection launches on September 12, and we can’t wait to see it in full.
So long, overdraft…
