Downton Abbey is leaving us with some serious withdrawal symptoms, but as far as Dame Maggie Smith is concerned, she doesn’t miss the series at all – as she’s never watched a single episode.
Despite playing the awesome Dowager Countess Violet Crawley on the ITV show, the 78-year-old admitted she has never felt the need to catch up with the programme once it’s aired. Yikes.
She told 60 Minutes: “I don’t sit down and watch it. I haven’t watched it.
“I will look at it when it’s all over, maybe. Because it’s frustrating – I always see things that I would like to do differently and think, ‘Oh, why in the name of God did I do that?'”
Oh ssh now, Mags. We think you’re amazing. And quite frankly, you’re missing out.
The show has picked up countless awards, including a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, two Emmys, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, but Maggie insists she has no interest in fame.
She said: “I don’t feel any different to the way I felt before, and I’m not quite sure what [being a star] means. I am familiar to people now, which is what I was not before. That is entirely due to the television set.”
The cast have already started filming series four and will return to our screens later this year. You can always borrow our box set to catch up, Maggie…
