James Arthur was crowned the winner of The X Factor 2012 last night in a tense live final filmed in Manchester.
The 24-year-old beat Jahmene Douglas to the winner’s spot and told Dermot O’Leary: “Thank you, thank you so much. Have I really won? Wow. I don’t know what to say.”
Jahmene added: “It’s such a blessing to even share a stage with such a talent, he’s my idol.”
James scooped 54 per cent of the vote. He has now released his debut single – a cover of Shontelle’s ‘Impossible‘, which is available to download now. All the profits from the single go to the Together For Short Lives charity.
Christopher Maloney was evicted on Saturday night, and last night we were treated to a bunch of amazing performances, not just from the final two boys – One Direction, Emeli Sande and Rihanna all took the stage.
But by far our favourite moment of all was James’ rendition of his new track, performed on stage with all the former X Factor contestants from the current series, and a whopping great bucket of confetti. Blub!
Congrats, James! RM
