The Brit Awards 2014 is almost upon us, well it will be here come February, and two live acts have been confirmed by organisers. And, we have to say, we were a tad surprised by the first name on the list: Arctic Monkeys.
The Sheffield foursome are set to open the awards show with a live performance, despite having openly mocked the Brits in the past. When the band won their first award back in 2006 for Breakthough Act, they were a no show, and they sent a mocking video message dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz and the Village People the following year. When they did finally turn up to accept their gong for Best British Act in 2008, Alex Turner’s sarcastic acceptance speech was quickly cut short by unimpressed ITV bosses.
So, it may come as a shock to some that the globally renowned band has finally agreed to take to the Brits stage. Or perhaps it’s a sign the lads have come to terms with their mainstream following. Eaither way, we’re excited to see what they have to offer.
And if the Monkeys don’t do it for you, Katy Perry has (less controversially) also been named as another act to perform on the famous stage.
With this being the last Brits that James Corden will host, we reckon 2014 will be one to remember…
