Mel Giedroyc will be flying solo during biscuit week...
The Great British Bake Off is going to look a little different tonight.
BBC producers have revealed that Sue Perkins has taken the episode off, marking her first absence since the show began back in 2010.
Her co-host Mel Giedroyc will take on presenting duties alone, with a preview showing her discussing Sue’s no-show with the bakers.
She says: ‘Welcome to week two in the Bake Off tent. One baker has gone, they’re not coming back. Sue’s also gone, but she will be back.’
Sue’s decision to take some time out was totally understandable. The 46-year-old is believed to have suffered a family bereavement during filming, which took place back in April.
A spokesperson for the show has also explained: ‘Sue was not able to join the team in the tent this week, but she returns next week.’
We’re glad to hear it, lady. Sending you lots of love.
So what’s the theme this time round? Well… it’s biscuit week! The showstopper challenge will see the contestants make huge biscuit structures – and we can’t wait.
Let’s hope things aren’t as controversial as last week’s episode, when Twitter went crazy over the crowning of Star Baker.
If you still haven’t caught up, there are spoilers ahead…
Basically, baker Selasi came first in the technical challenge, and judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood also seemed impressed with his citrus and spice drizzle cake and raspberry, slow and white chocolate mirror glaze cake.
However, it ended up being garden designer Jane who walked away with the accolade, after being praised for her lemon and poppy seed drizzle cake and chocolate orange mirror glaze cake.
In Bake Off terms, this a big deal. But there’s still plenty of time for Selasi and the other contestants to shine.
Ooh. We’re already excited for 8pm.
