UPDATE 30/3/16: It’s official. All five of the band will reunite in celebration of their 20th anniversary.
Posh Spice a.k.a Victoria Beckham had previously shunned the idea of taking part in the big hoorah, but now reports suggest she will be there, albeit without performing.
A source told US Weekly: ‘[Victoria] won’t sing or dance. There’s a small chance she’ll film something with them or make an appearance at a show here and there.’
Let the countdown begin…
UPDATE 2/3/16: It was all too good to be true.
Yep, speaking to Fabulous magazine, Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice confirmed that while Victoria is supportive of a reunion, she will not be involved.
‘Obviously, it would be very different doing it as a four.
‘But we all speak and we know that Victoria is so supportive – always has been and always will be.’
It’s not all bad news though – Emma went on to slam the rumours that Mel C wants nothing to do with the reunion if VB isn’t on board.
‘I speak to Mel C all the time and she feels exactly the same as us,’ she explained. ‘Which is that the anniversary should be celebrated in some way.’
So when will it happen?!
‘It is being discussed, and I think it’s something that we would like to do,’ Emma added.
‘It’s just getting everything together and being organised, which is harder now. You know, having children and all of us have our own careers…but we would like to do something.
5/1/16: Listen up ladies, we’ve got some seriously good news for you.
Melanie Brown a.k.a. Mel B of the Spice Girls has just suggested that the girlband will finally reunite as one.
Yep, speaking to the Metro, Mel B said, “I think it’s our 20th year next year so we’re going to be doing something at some point with hopefully all of us.” Eek!
The best part? Victoria Beckham previously ruled out any hopes we had of a reunion since launching her eponymous fashion label, so whether “hopeful” or not, we can’t help but take Mel B’s statement as a good sign that all five of the group will be coming together for a final hurrah.
Talk about excited.
The anniversary actually marks the release of Wannabe, which catapulted the girls into stardom back in 1996. But wait until you hear what we’ve just got wind of…
Remember when the song first came out, and you learnt every single lyric off by heart and recited the entire rap at the school disco, because you were that cool?
Well, one of the song’s co-writers has just revealed what those lyrics actually meant. And they’re seriously dodgy.
We don’t just mean sexually explicit dodgy (although there’s that too), we’re talking Class A drugs dodgy.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the insider revealed that Mel B’s rap actually refers to the band’s sexual preferences, and basically spell out the fact that Geri and Mel C liked to, erm, get jiggy whilst high on illegal substances.
Here’s a recap of the lyrics: ‘So here’s a story from A to Z, you wanna get with me you gotta listen carefully, We got Em in the place who likes it in your face, We got G like MC who likes it on an… Easy V doesn’t come for free, she’s a real lady, and as for me, ha you’ll see.’
Translation: ‘We got G (Geri) like MC (Mel C) who likes it on an… E’, aka. ecstasy. Wow. Not so innocent anymore, eh?
So yeh, next time you’re listening to that retro badboy, maybe think twice about about rapping along in public.
Sorry to ruin your innocence, guys.
