They posted matching Tweets, with Shayne writing: ‘After much speculation I’m over joyed to announce that @sophieaustin1 and I are expecting our first child. #blessed [sic].’
Sophie reiterated: ‘After much speculation I’m over joyed to announce that @shayneTward and I are expecting our first child. #blessed.’
Of course, the majority of their followers were delighted for them, and the congratulatory messages came flooding in.
One wrote: ‘Congratulations to you both in so so happy for you both you will both be such great amazing parents!!❤️? [sic].’
Others said: ‘Congratulations to you both! Fun times ahead ? ?,’ and: ‘So proud of you you both amazing news on your baby ??? ?????.’
Shayne later thanked followers for their kind words, adding: ‘Myself & @SophieAustin1 feel So Blessed. Thank you for Such caring & lovely messages.❤️ New adventure for the 3 of us.! #Happiness #family [sic].’
But unfortunately for Shayne and Sophie, not all of the Tweets were entirely positive. *Sigh*.
Some focused in on the fact that the couple only confirmed their romance four months ago, and that Sophie is recently divorced.
The actress – whose ‘Oaks character Lindsey Butterfield was killed off in May – wed her long-term partner Graeme Rooney last July, but they’d ended things by the end of the year.
Comments online include: ‘What absolute madness! After four months I doubt he even knows her favourite colour and yet he’s made her pregnant,’ and: ‘So she got married to someone last July, this July she’s having a baby with someone else. You stay classy, Sophie…’
Um. Firstly, we don’t know what happened in Sophie’s personal life to lead her her to split from her husband. And she’s under no obligation to make that information public.
Secondly, nobody has the right to tell someone when is or isn’t the right time for them to have a child.
If they’re happy, we’re happy for them. Sending you all the congrats in the world, guys!
