Shirley Temple has died at the age of 85, her family have just confirmed.
Known for her legendary roles in Heidi, Bright Eyes and Curly Top, the Hollywood icon was one of the biggest child stars of her time after kicking off her acting career at just three-years-old.
According to the BBC, the silver screen icon passed away from natural causes at her home in California, with her family having now released the following statement:
‘She was surrounded by her family and caregivers. We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and… our beloved mother, grandmother [and] great-grandmother.’
A hugely iconic star of the 1930s, Shirley’s fame even extended beyond film, with a Beverly Hills barman reportedly naming the popular non-alcoholic cocktail after her.
She also received a special Juvenile Academy Award in February 1935 for her outstanding contribution to cinema.
Our thoughts are with the star’s friends and family at this sad time.
