Kate Middleton gave birth to a little baby boy yesterday afternoon at 4:24pm, with the new Prince of Cambridge weighing in at 8lbs oz. And proud father Prince William has now spoken out for the first time about becoming a new dad to the third in line to the throne.
In a short statement released last night, the 31-year-old Duke of Cambridge gushed about him and wife Kate: “We could not be happier!”
William was said to be at Kate’s side throughout the entire labour after rushing with her via a private car to St Mary’s hospital just before 6am yesterday morning, and was there to welcome their first son into the world just over 10 hours later.
The Duke took on the role of informing the relatives once the royal bundle had arrived, putting in a call to the Queen, father Prince Charles and brother Prince Harry to spread word of the good news.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are delighted at the news”, while new grandad Prince Charles has also perdonally shared his delight at having a new baby grandson to spoil.
“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy”, the 64-year-old royal said last night.
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge is said to be safe and well and resting up in hospital.
