The 42-year-old singer was spotted cleaning his mitts after shaking hands with members of the public...
Robbie Williams has been joking about hand sanitiser-gate over on Instagram.
In case you missed the year’s best telly moment so far, let us explain. The 42-year-old singer helped London ring in 2017 when he performed his Robbie Rocks Big Ben Live gig on NYE.
As the clock struck midnight, he went over to the audience to shake hands with them and link arms to sing Auld Lang Syne.
It was all good clean fun. Except, according to Robbie, it wasn’t clean at all.
When he returned to the stage, he was filmed grimacing as he whipped out a bottle of hand sanitiser and applied it over his palms. Awks.
Some thought his disgusted expression meant he was joking, while others were convinced his response was genuine.
One wrote: ‘The close up of Robbie Williams sterilising his hands after touching the audience is a strong start to 2017.’
In reference to Take That’s hit Back For Good, another joked: ‘Whatever I said, Whatever I did, I didn’t mean it, I just anti-bac for good.’
But Robbie doesn’t seem too bothered about the speculation, filming a jokey Instagram video in response to his critics yesterday.
In the clip, the dad-of-two shakes a friend’s hand and wishes her a happy new year. She walks away before he quickly grabs his anti-bac and pulls a similarly displeased face. LOLz.
His wife Ayda Field was the first to post the vid, captioning it: ‘Wiping the slate clean for 2017 @robbiewilliams #😂 #instafun #instagood #cleanslate #familyfunday.’
Robbie then re-shared it, after which he received plenty of supportive messages from fans.
These included: ‘Ha ha love you Rob. You tell em! As a father of two young children you’d have been a fool not to have done this. Let’s hope others follow your example xxx,’ and: ‘Robbie you’re always absolutely brilliant and flawless! Love your great sense of humour!! [sic].’
