Our very own Sarah-Rose Harrison takes us through some of her favourite wardrobe staples RN...
Hey, I’m Sarah-Rose Harrison. LOOK‘s Senior Fashion Assistant by day and blogger/YouTuber at Sarah-Rose Goes by night and (most) weekends.
I’m a high street girl through and through and one of my favourite parts of my job at the magazine is getting the chance to see all of the amazing new season pieces before they drop in-store.
Having sneak peeks of new launches, previews and secret collaborations is a real perk. Whilst every day at LOOK is very different the one thing that stays the same is that I’m forever on the search for the best pieces on the high street to share with you guys.
Keeping in touch with the major seasonal trends, micro trends and the must-have pieces that sell out over and over, and over has a big effect on my wardrobe and the pieces I inevitably end up purchasing each week/month. Here are a few of the pieces I’ve been loving most this month…
If, like me, you’re a little clumsy white trousers can be quite a daring choice – I spend the entire day anxious that I’ll spill something on them when I’m wearing mine.
Despite the worry, they’re a great way to brighten up your everyday wardrobe. Clean cut, tailored styles are my favourites. New Look do a lovely paperbag pair and Zara (as ever) have some dreamy options. I always tend to keep the rest of my outfit quite neutral when wearing white, sticking to either black, navy or grey.
Slingbacks are my ultimate summer shoe. I became a fast fan of the pointed style last spring after picking up a pair in an Office mid-season sale. Super versatile, a pair of slingbacks easily elevate your go-to everyday options like, jeans and a tee, whilst also working as a lovely alternative to heels for an evening event.
I barely took my pair off and was so excited to see so many lovely pairs on the high street again ahead of this summer. Marks & Spencer and Next have some of the cutest pairs. You’ll have already seen a tonne of of your fave bloggers wearing this style on Insta, and I am equally as obsessed – and wore mine every day on a recent trip to Italy.
It should be no surprise that I ended up picking up the same style in black too. I also picked up this cute cream style from M&S as I loved how polished they look. They’re under £50 and almost a little Céline-esque which is a win-win in my book.
Despite the return of the rain, I’m getting ready for summer. I’ve been picking up bikinis (Boden have the sweetest styles!) and other summer holiday bits. For me, at least, nothing says summer quite like a denim dress and Boohoo always stock the sweetest, most purse-friendly styles.
Super easy to wear, there are oh-so-many great denim options across the high street – whether you’re after a classic pinafore, shirt dress or a sweet smock style. I stumbled across this dreamy denim off-the-shoulder dress on Boohoo last week, and loved it so much I purchased the top version too. Cut in a loose, billowy shape it’s perfect for keeping cool and comfortable come summer: I love how the ruffled fluted sleeves give it a ’70s edge. Pair yours with trainers for weekends in the city, swapping for slides or sandals for the beach.
A Trusty Trench Coat
I love a great trench coat and rarely leave the house without one.
This Archive by Alexa for Marks & Spencer style is my absolute all-time favourite as it’s just so versatile and quite literally goes with anything and everything. Whilst it’s sadly not available anymore there are some dreamy alternatives available. Massimo Dutti and Mango both have great options if you’re looking to invest in a style that will see you season through season and Marks & Spencer’s Everywear trenches are so reasonable and waterproof – a much welcome feature as the current weather is grossly unpredictable.
The ‘puffle’ top
Part ruffle, part wrap top, the Look fashion teams have coined this the ‘puffle’ – we’re not sure it’ll stick but we’re huge fans of this super cute style.
River Island have the dreamiest selection of these in endless colours and prints. Perfect for adding a little Spanish flare to your weekday wardrobe you can take your top from desk-to-dinner by simply dropping off your shoulders and swapping your sling backs for heels.
