It’s the question that was on everyone’s lips: Is Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk about Perrie Edwards?!
Since the INSANELY catchy R&B track dropped last week, it’s been top of our playlists.
And now that Zayn has admitted that he wrote the tune just a couple of months after he left One Direction in March 2015 – when he was still engaged to Perrie – we all think we know who the steamy lyrics are really about…
And when we say steamy, we mean steamy. Referencing ‘a place that is so pure, so dirty and raw,’ and being ‘in the bed all day’, it’s clear that Zayn wrote the song during a passionate time in his life.
But now, in a brand new interview, the 23-year-old has insisted that the song isn’t just about sex – it’s more than that, Zayn says.
‘[Pillowtalk] is about sex, there is obviously sex in a relationship. It’s not the whole incentive of the song though,’ he explaine on Z100’s Morning Show.
Speaking, we presume, of his and Perrie’s relationship, he continued: ‘The actual intent of the song is even though you have great times in a relationship, you have really bad times as well but that’s what makes it worth while because you learn things and you go through experiences that bring you closer together.’
‘That’s the actual intent of the song. Obviously you have sex and sometimes you fight during the relationship, so I did mention that in the song but yeah, it’s not solely about sex.’
So, how do we think Perrie is feeling about the lyrics and their sexy nature?
Well, the Little Mix singer seemed to react to her ex’s single and video with a suggestively captioned Instagram post at the weekend.
The 22-year-old shared a snap of herself sitting topless in bed surrounded by pillows and playing on a guitar, writing: ‘I could play all night’.
Now Little Mix fans are pondering whether her bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock may have also thrown a teeny bit of Twitter shade at Zayn.
Gushing over Rihanna’s new music, Leigh-Anne Tweeted yesterday: ‘Currently obsessed with #ANTI RiRi why do u do this to me? If ‘Work’ isn’t number 1 there is no justice in the world..that is all.. Leighx.’
Pillowtalk is currently at #1 on the midweek charts, while Work is at #3. Of course, if Work were to rise, it would knock Zayn off the top spot.
While 90% sure Leigh just wasn’t thinking about this fact at the time, it is quite a coincidence…
