People’s Choice Awards: The Wanted Beat One Direction To Breakout Award

The Wanted are on top of the world today as they celebrate winning their first People’s Choice Award for Favourite Breakout Act.

The British band beat their rivals One Direction, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen, Fun. and Gotye.

When taking to the stage to collect the award at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Max George told the audience: “This never happens to us. We’ve never won anything before… We never expected this at all… To win this and beat the people that we have…” Bless!

Nathan Sykes added: “Over Christmas, I was sat down with my mum and we were kind of talking: ‘What do you want to do this year…?’ and I said, ‘The one thing I want to do is win a massive award…’, so this is unbelievable.”

The boys performed at the ceremony, dedicating their acapella version of ‘Afternoon Delight’ to Ellen Degeneres.

One Direction didn’t lose out completely, though – they scooped the award for Favourite Song for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ and Favourite Album for ‘Up All Night.’

Katy Perry and The Hunger Games were the big winners at the bash – Katy took home four gongs, while The Hunger Games walked away with a whopping five.
