Lauren Urasek first made a name for herself in 2014 as the 25-year-old makeup artist with the title of OkCupid’s “most messaged straight woman” in New York City. After her run in with fame, Lauren started her own hilarious blog theyreallysaidthis where she divulges the most outrageous and bizarre messages she’s received from men – from dick pics to marriage proposals, this lady has seen it all.
Now, with her digital dating experience behind her, Lauren has just released her first book: ‘Popular: The Ups and Downs of Online Dating from the Most Popular Girl in New York City’ and she’s ready to share the wealth of her digital dating experience with us.
So how do you play the online dating game perfectly? Lauren reckons she’s got this sorted:
It’s All About That Face
Out with the Instagram filters and in with well-lit photos, taken outside preferably. According to Lauren, over-filtered shots are a complete no-no while bikini clad profile photos will attract “the wrong sort of guy”. And smile, always remember to smile.
The Name Game
Choose a good one. Because everyone is judging and first impressions count. Go for something simple, quirky and memorable.
Spell It Out
Grammar is so important. There’s nothing worse than reading a profile and having to have the Urban Dictionary open to decipher what you’re trying to say.
To Reply Or Not To Reply
You don’t have to reply to every message you receive. That might sound weird, because we’re British and insanely polite, but you don’t owe favours to anyone. Just reply to those that pique your interest. And most importantly: enjoy!
So there you go, your perfect online dating profile is sorted. You’re welcome. Just make sure you invite us to the wedding, ok?
