Mollie King, 28, may look like she’s got it all – one fifth of platinum-selling girl band The Saturdays, the newly appointed UK face of Maybelline New York, plus she’s bagged the hottest guy on the planet, model David Gandy – but she shows no signs of slowing down just yet. And we applaud her for it: there’s nothing hotter than a woman with ambition.
In an interview this weekend, the blonde beauty opened up about her dreams to follow in Victoria Beckham’s footsteps and design clothes herself (after leaving the Spice Girls, Beckham established her own fashion empire with a turnover of more than £30m.)“I would love at some point to design my own line, but I would like to know what I am doing rather than just putting my name to something. Victoria Beckham is brilliant,” says King, who has just edited her third ‘Loved By Mollie’ range for Oasis. She adds that Posh Spice “been in the most successful girl band of all time, then made that transition over to the fashion world in a way that is so credible…she is a superhero.”
Alongside her passion for clothes, Mollie is also helping to inspire children who suffer from dyslexia, like herself, “I work with Dyslexia Action…I was so insecure about my reading as a child,” she confesses.“My best friend would sit next to me in class when I had to read and whisper in my ear when a big word was coming up – I remember that awful feeling so well, and it’s important for me to give something back.”
Is there anything this girl can’t do? “I can’t cook,” she admits. “The other day I was trying to impress David – who is an amazing cook – by making eggs benedict. I left the blooming toast in too long and burnt it. But David wasn’t allowed to say so.”
