The decision to strip Love Island’s Zara Holland of her Miss Great Britain title was a controversial one.

And now Deone Robertson, who’s been handed the crown, has spoken out.

In an interview with Mirror Online, the new Miss GB hit back against critics of the beauty pageant, after many have branded it ‘sexist’.

On Instagram, Deone announced that she’d taken the role of Miss GB ‘under unfortunate circumstances’

Deone said, ‘We are supposed to be role models for young girls and represent our chosen charities – [Zara] knew this.

‘Everyone is briefed before entering a pageant. It’s drummed into your head. There are contracts in place. You can’t be be seen naked or topless and you definitely cannot have sex on TV.’

With Caroline Flack referencing the ‘dark ages’ and social media calling out ‘slut-shaming’, the new winner has defended the organisation’s decision.

She continued, ‘But I think the pageant community saw this coming.

‘Nobody is saying she did anything wrong. She is a young girl enjoying life but under these circumstances, she can’t be a title holder.’

We’re not sure everyone agrees with you there…

She did have some kind words for the Love Island contestant, saying, ‘I think Zara had the best time on Love Island.

‘It came at a cost but I know she is going to go on to do bigger and better things.’

We’re sure of that.
