We think it’s safe to say that Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright’s Christmas ended up being a little bittersweet.
The past year has been full of highs and lows for the couple, with 28-year-old Mark losing his grandmother Nanny Pat just months after she’d watched him marry Michelle, 28.
Nanny Pat passed away in December, so it was only fitting that Mark would pay tribute to her in a New Year message to his Instagram followers.
Sharing a photo of Pat kissing Michelle on their wedding day, he wrote: ‘Life is all about ups & downs. This year 1 special women vowed to be in my life forever and 1 special women left my life forever..
‘Be prepared for the best & worst moments. Just make sure in 2016 you take the best out of every moment and never take anyone or anything for granted.
‘Happy new year people. Lots of love and happiness to you all. Xx.’ Pretty powerful stuff, right?
Mark and Michelle got hitched in a romantic ceremony at Suffolk’s Hengrave Hall in May, which was followed by a luxurious honeymoon in both the Maldives and Dubai.
Michelle had already grown incredibly close to her hubby’s family, leading her to Tweet in honour of Nanny Pat: ‘Heaven gained an angel today.’
Other members of Mark’s family also spoke out on social media, with his elder sister Jess dedicating numerous posts to her beloved grandmother.
The 30-year-old captioned an image of them together: ‘My world my everything my angel. forever and ever. I love you so much Nan xxxx.’
Then on Christmas Day she posted: ‘Merry Christmas my angel we have a seat for you Nan X x.’
What a lovely message.
