Former Spice Girl Mel C questioned whether Little Mix were being inappropriately sexy. Little Mix responded by... being sexy, obv
What’s Mel C’s beef with Little Mix?
The former Spice Girl recently felt the wrath of the Mixers after questioning whether they were too “provocative” recently – but were her words twisted?
During another interview on October 20 for the AOL Build series, the former Spice Girl, 42, seemed to suggest that they were. She said a journalist asked her if she’d seen the Little Mix’s new campaign, and told her they were looking more provocative.
“[I said] If that’s the case, that’s a shame,” she said, before asking: “Why do young girls want to be portrayed that way?” she asked. “I wore tracksuits. I never felt that us Spice Girls were put under any pressure to be sexy.”
Oo-er. Some people, like the director behind the Spice Girls’ Say You’ll Be There video, Vaughan Arnell, might think things weren’t as innocent as Mel remembers. In a recent interview, he recalled the girls wearing latex gear from a sex shop in the 1996 video.
Mel, who’s currently promoting her new album Version Of Me, wasn’t done there, either. The week before, at the Pinktober Gala where she performed, she said that she thought Little Mix were “the closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen” but “they are getting more provocative”.
She said that the pressure to be sexy is much more than it was when she was a Spice Girl, but that she wishes Little Mix would tone it down a bit. “They’re all gorgeous and great singers, but they weren’t sexy and it’s got more that way. I understand it’s hard… it’s 100 per cent worse than when I was in the Spice Girls. It was a more innocent time.”
Being the kickass ladies that they are, Little Mix aren’t about to let Mel’s criticism get to them. After she made the comments, Jesy Nelson made a super sassy comeback by wearing a miniskirt with the message ‘Too Provocative?’ emblazoned across the back.
The picture, taken at the Radio 1 Teen Awards, was posted on the band’s Instagram, and followed up with a video of Perrie Edwards in a leotard and thigh-high boots, whipping her hair like a boss. Er, Mel who?
