Thousands of One Direction fans have been left devastated and worried after the band cancelled their concert at Belfast’s SSE Arena at the very last minute.
Just thirty minutes before the show was due to start, with a packed-out audience, a statement was given to say that 1D’s Liam Payne had been taken ill, and would be unable to perform.
The announcement simply said: ‘The show tonight has been cancelled as Liam has taken ill, and whilst not serious, he is unable to perform tonight.’
In a mixed bag of emotions, the band’s loyal fan base have felt disappointment at the cancellation, but have also been left worrying about Liam’s health, although the announcement stated that it was not serious.
Although none of the members took to the stage to address their fans on the night, three out of the four have since shared their apologies on social media.
Harry Styles was the first to break his silence, saying: ‘Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast. Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We’re very sorry. H.’ This came just one hour after the show was due to start.
Louis was next, tweeting: ‘We’re so so sorry for what happened tonight, it was out of our control ! Lots of love to Liam and thank you for being so understanding !’
Niall was the last, sharing the message: ‘So sorry we have had to cancel tonight guys. Unfortunately these things happen… Thank you to all who came down tonight!’
Fans have taken to the band’s Facebook page to share their concern, with one user writing that they had ‘spent 7 hours worrying about Liam.’
Another fan said: ‘Not gonna sleep tonight I need to know Liam is okay.’
Many have likened the situation to Zayn’s departure from the band, with one user tweeting: ‘I don’t like the statement… The last statement we had, Zayn left. #GetWellSoonLiam’.
A member of the band’s management team have said: ‘Unfortunately One Direction have had to cancel tonight’s concert in Belfast.
‘Liam has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place. Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets… The band apologise to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible.’
We really hope that Liam recovers soon.
