The star-studded awards ceremony in LA marked the 26-year-old Glee actress’s first public appearance since the death of her co-star boyfriend last month, who tragically passed away after a drug overdose.
Lea, who scooped up the Best Actress gong for her role in the high school musical hit TV show, delivered an emotional thank you speech to a mixture of tears and applause from the audience as her Glee co-stars wiped away their tears on stage behind her.
“I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much all of your love and support has meant to me over these very past difficult few weeks,” a tearful Lea, who was looking gorgeously pretty in pink and wearing her beloved ‘Cory’ necklace, told the audience.
“I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory, for all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world. And we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart.
So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and became a part of all of our hearts – and that’s where he’ll stay forever.”
A picture of 31-year-old Cory was also shown on the giant screens behind the stage at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles as the Glee cast remembered their close friend and colleague.
We’re choking back the tears just listening to that. Good on you, Lea – we’re sure Cory would have been proud of your immense bravery in giving out that emotional speech.
