Keira Knightley stuck two fingers up at the traditional decadent showbiz wedding last year when she skipped out of the registry office in France wearing one very familiar dress.
The 28-year-old Atonement actress surprised (and delighted) us all by opting to recycle her favourite Chanel dress for her big day. Rather than splashing the cash on a lavish designer bridal gown for her wedding to James Righton, Keira instead slipped on the beautiful ballerina-esque frock she’d worn many times before before. And now we know why.
‘Karl [Lagerfeld] very kindly designed me a jacket to go with it. I’d worn the dress lots. It was my something old,’ Keira told The Telegraph.
‘I liked not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again.’
Making us love her that bit more for her refreshing un-starriness, Keira then dropped a bombshell. ‘It’s now got red wine spilled down the front,’ she added. ‘I didn’t quite realise the extent of it until I got home. It’s quite impressively splattered.’
‘But, hey, a good night is a good night and when a dress has had its time, maybe it’s had its time. I’m pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can’t, I’m happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed.’
And THIS is why we love her…
