Kate Middleton Wasn’t ‘Snubbed’ By Paralympian

Kate Middleton wasn’t snubbed by one of the winning athletes at the Paralymics on Sunday. Reports claim that Iranian Mehrdad Karam Zadeh refused to shake Kate’s hand, causing her embarrassment at the Stratford stadium.

However, it turns out that Mehrdad was simply conforming to his religious customs, which state that men can only shake hands with women they’re related to. The athlete clutched his silver medal with both hands when Kate presented him with the prize.

A spokesperson for the Duchess has confirmed the mix-up, telling the Mail Online: “Many male athletes from Islamic countries do not shake hands in public with women they are not related to for cultural and religious reasons.”

The palace also added that Kate was “honoured” to have presented the winning athletes with their medals. She gave Aled Davies his gold prize for winning the Men’s Discus Throw, then posed for a Twitter picture with him. RM
