Creative director of the hit prime-time show, John Whiston, let slip that he’s got his eye on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their tiny royal bundle to be the next celebrity guests to tread Machester’s most celebrated cobbles. Apparently, producers want to feature baby George in a special episode to make up for failing to cover the royal birth on the show last month.
“We want the royal baby to come and open the new street”, John told Daily Star. “It would be fantastic to get Kate, William and George there with a pair of tiny baby scissors. The soap has a long historical connection with the Royal Family so having the newest arrival on the set would be perfect.”
“We didn’t have time to put the birth in a storyline”, he added. “We did with the Jubilee but we knew what date that would happen!”
Little George’s granddad Prince Charles made a cameo appearance in the soap as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations back in 2000, so will no doubt be fully behind the idea of the new family getting on set to mingle with the Salford locals.
We’ve just had an idea- instead of our future king enjoying a traditional royal christening at Buckingham Palace, how do we reckon the Queen would take to a special baby baptism in the Rovers Return? Just a thought…
