As models started fainted from the heat, viewers of the show started to tweet their anger at fashion designer Kanye West (who was late)...
Hip hop superstar Kanye West isn’t exactly a novice when it comes to stirring up controversy. We all remember that awkward MTV VMA’s moment when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s speech to declare Beyonce should have won Best Video… Cringe.
And this week, the Stronger singer caused yet more drama at New York Fashion Week after he put on a typically over-the-top performance for his new Yeezy Season 4 clothes line.
And it got A LOT of people talking.
Fashion’s top designers, editors, and social media bloggers showed up in their thousands to support Kanye with his latest project, which was held outside Manhattan in the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park.
With wife Kim Kardashian and fashion favourites Kendall and Kylie Jenner cheering on from the sidelines, it was set to be another star-studded fashion extravaganza, and we couldn’t wait.
But what seemed like a beautiful sunny day for those who were lucky enough to score tickets to the stars show, was apparently not so great for the leotard clad models – who reportedly struggled to handle the blistering heat.
And with Kanye reportedly turning up over an hour and a half late, the uncomfortable wait certainly didn’t go unnoticed by some seriously annoyed guests who took to social media to diss the singer.
Editorial director of New York Magazine’s The Cut, Stella Bugbee, even tweeted live updates of the dramatic goings on, creating a bit of a stir online.
“I’d like to see Kanye and Vanessa Beecroft stand in the hot sun in nude leotards for three hours. #YeezySeason4,” she tweeted.
Before adding: “Model passed out in the heat is given water by man in the audience but no one on the #YeezySeason4 team helps.”
Stella went on to declare she wishes she’d never even turned up to the spectacular event and told her 12,000 followers they should boycott Kanye’s fashion line. Eeek.
Robin Givhan, fashion critic at the Washington Post, was just as annoyed and asked: “Is this the show? Waiting until the models collapse one by one? Am I complicit? What’s going on!”
And it seems the heat wasn’t the only embarrassing issue that Kanye had to face, as a couple of wardrobe malfunctions also caught the audience’s eye.
GQ Magazine tweeted a video of supermodel Amina Blue as she seemed to struggle to walk in her mega-heels. We know the feeling.
But proving she’s ever the professional, Amina can be seen ripping off the pesky shoes before continuing to strut her way down the runway.
Kudos to you.
