Some fans have accused Jools Oliver of putting 'pressure' on fellow mums to shed their baby weight... But she's hit back
Jools Oliver has been treating fans to some seriously cute photos of her family recently, including adorable snaps of the latest member of her brood, River Rocket, and we just can’t get enough.
But the 41-year-old has had to defend one recent Instagram post after facing criticism that the photo ‘pressurised’ new mums to lose weight quickly after giving birth. Whaaat?
The photo causing a stir features the gorgeous mum of five sporting a pair of casual trousers along with the caption: “Thank you to the fab girls @aceandjig finally ‘almost’ fitting into these gorgeous trousers so comfy post little baby and beyond @nadianarainthink we have finally found our perfect trousers ❤️ xxx”.
Having only given birth to little River five weeks ago, we think the photo is cause for celebration, with new mum Jools looking happy and healthy in some pretty beaut elasticated trousers.
But one woman had a slightly less positive reaction and decided to take a swipe at Jools by commenting: “Just saw a newspaper article about this photo and thought I’d come on here to comment (I dont usually comment on such things!) I am currently pregnant with my 2nd baby. And every minute of every day Im scrutinising my weight etc…pictures like this by naturally slim women DO NOT help!”
The woman went on: “Shouldnt you be more concerned about bonding with your child rather than how quickly you fit back into your jeans? How is this supposed to help other women in the same situation who doesnt snap back so quickly? @joolsoliver”.
But Jools, who is married to TV chef Jamie Oliver, was eager to defend her selfie and hit back at the claims: “@yasmin_agg honestly it’s about the trousers!!! I didn’t even think about the weight!!! For god sake I still have heaps to lose as I said earlier my tshirt hides a lot!!
“It was mearly a shout out to the lovely girls who sent me the trousers nothing more I hardly EVER put pictures up of myself and certainly not a ‘selfie’ I am confident with my body before during and after pregnancy and totally get that things don’t go back to normal for at least 6 months to a year! If at all and after 5 babies I should know. ”
“The waist of the trousers is elasticated!!!!! So prob would have fitted when I was 9 months pregs! As for bonding with my baby… I feel no need to address this it’s ridiculous. So please next time if I irritate you just unfollow me it was just meant to be a nice pic of a pair of good trews but has to turn in to a weight issue seems a bit weird to me and a totally shame!”
Couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Unsurprisingly a sea of people were on hand to defend the star, including close pal and yoga teacher Nadia Narain, who commented: “Jools should not have to hide the fact that she is a beautiful woman and looks radiant after her birth.
“She got some great genes from her incredibly beautiful mother and has bonded very deeply with her baby and is all round a positive and incredible human being.
“She is the last woman to make other pregnant or post baby women feel uncomfortable or that they should conform to any kind of model weight. In fact weight wasn’t even mentioned. Let alone being told she should be bonding? That’s just hurtful to say to a mother of a new born.”
Who cares about negative comments when you’ve got great friends, ey?
And Nadia wasn’t the only one showing her support as shocked fans were quick to praise the mum of five. One wrote: “Well said @nadianarain we all need to support each other as mothers. We all come in different shapes and sizes and should all embrace our bodies and the amazing things they go through, before, during and after pregnancy. I think @joolsoliver looks fabulous #spreadpositivity#elasticatedtrousersarethebest”
Whilst another added: “Dear Jools, you look absolutely stunning!! you are beautiful inside and out! please forget the negative comments… you are such an inspiration as a woman and a Mum!!”
And we totally agree, keep doing what you’re doing Jools!
