Everyone’s Talking About Johnny Depp’s Acceptance Speech At The People’s Choice Awards

The actor scooped the prize for Favourite Movie Icon. And the internet has some feelings about it...

So it seems as though Johnny Depp is the talk of the internet after last night’s People’s Choice Awards.

Of course, the 53-year-old has found himself in the headlines recently due to his very public divorce from ex wife Amber Heard. The actor also faced abuse allegations after photographs of his former partner surfaced, showing a bruised face that she alleged was caused by him.

However, Amber later dismissed the domestic violence charges as part of a settlement, with a joint statement being issued by the former couple.

This clearly hasn’t scuppered his public image though, as Johnny Depp was awarded with the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Movie Icon last night.

The actor took to the stage at the Microsoft Theatre in LA to accept his award, after being introduced by Jada Pinkett Smith.

His rather lengthy acceptance speech included a ‘thank you’ to his fans for sticking by him – although he didn’t go into any detail about the ‘good’ or ‘bad’ times he was actually referring to.

Clutching his award, Johnny began: ‘Listen, it’s a big night. I came here for one reason tonight and one reason only. I came here for you, the people, who through whatever good times or bad, you know, have stood by me, trusted me. Thank you.’

He added, ‘You very, very graciously invited me here once again tonight… You have no idea how much I appreciate it.’

Taking a moment to soak up the crowd’s reaction, the Pirates Of The Caribbean star said, ‘Listen, I was very deeply affected by the kindness of your recognition and by your well wishes to my family and to myself, which is why it’s especially meaningful to me to be here in front of you to say thank you and to tell you that I to thank you.’

But a few people weren’t too impressed by the fact that Johnny was voted for by the public.
