Not everyone is keen with the retailer's latest offering, because they think it's ruining the 'magic' of Christmas...
It must be Christmas… because the John Lewis advert is officially here!
Yep. We got our first look at the commercial this morning, and it all revolves around an INSANELY adorable boxer dog named Buster.
Rather than bring us all to the floor in racking sobs, the retailer’s team has instead decided to bring some festive cheer.
We see a little girl named Bridget heading to bed on Christmas Eve, while her dad is in the garden assembling her present – a trampoline.
Then, as Bridget’s parents watch TV, a magical scene unfolds in the garden. Buster watches enviously from the window while adorable woodland creatures test out the gift.
In the morning, Bridget runs out to give her new toy a try – but Buster gets there first. LOLz.
The majority of people seem to love the idea, with Tweets including: ‘The John Lewis advert is so good 😂,’ and: ‘John Lewis never fails with their Xmas advert 😻❤️.’
But unfortunately for JL, others reckon they’ve found a particularly distressing flaw with the story.
As it’s Bridget’s parents who give her the trampoline, they reckon it may ruin kids’ dreams of Father Christmas.
One Tweeter said: ‘#JohnLewis #bustertheboxer Good luck to parents all over the UK explaining to their little ones why Santa didn’t deliver the trampoline.’
Others wrote: ‘Hang on a second. Did John Lewis just kill the magic of Santa delivering presents?…is that intentional?’ and: ‘I’m pretty sure #johnlewis just informed the extremely youthful people on the planet, that Santa isn’t real.’
However, John Lewis has hit back at the criticism, with a spokesperson telling the Daily Mirror: ‘We’re sure Father Christmas has also visited Bridget and Buster the night before, this is just an extra special gift from her parents because she loves to bounce.’
And others agree with this sentiment, with kinder messages reading: ‘💖💖💖 this advert. Haters need to realise Santa only brings token gifts. Has no one seen Fred Claus. Lol well done JL,’ and: ‘People moaning #JohnLewis advert saying it’s ruining it for kids! Sad!everyone knows santa hasn’t time to build trampolines on Christmas Eve [sic].’
