Viewers could sense some major awkwardness on the sofa yesterday...
Things got a tad awkward for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning yesterday.
The pair sat through a cringe-worthy interview with James Van Der Beek, who did not seem pleased with the way he was introduced onto the show.
TBH, we kinda get it. Holly and Phil opened the piece by talking about James’ Dawson’s Creek co-stars, telling viewers that Katie Holmes is now a ‘leading Hollywood actress’, Michelle Williams has ‘received four Oscar nominations’ and Joshua Jackson appears in ‘Golden Globe winning drama The Affair‘, before asking: ‘But what happened to the main man himself, Mr James Van Der Beek?’
They also showed a clip of the 40-year-old as Dawson, despite the fact he was on the sofa to chat about his new show Carters Get Rich.
When James arrived, he pointed out: ‘I have been on television the last 20 years, just wanted to let you know.’
Phil, 54, responded: ‘We know that, but it worked better as a link. You have been very busy!’ However, Dawson’s Creek continued to be a key topic.
Viewers began to take to Twitter to defend James, with messages including: ‘The opening 2 mins of the This Morning interview with James Van Der Beek are textbook how to p*** off a guest,’ and: ‘I’m no fan of his or Dawson Creek but you could see how offended he was at the intro and Phil & Holly seemed to realise too [sic].’
However, others thought the issue lay with James himself. One comment read: ‘James van der beek on this morning yest 🙈😫 i can see why he was annoyed! Terrible intro! But he continued to come across so badly! [sic].’
Hmm. What did you make of the interview? Let us know over on Twitter @lookmagazine.
