IMG Models has signed upi its first ‘plus sized’ male model. And it’s making big waves in the fashion industry.
Zach Miko is the first man to join the model agency’s new ‘Brawn’ division, which aims to embrace men of all shapes and sizes within menswear. He’s previously modelled Target’s ‘Big And Tall’ range, and stands tall at over 6ft (and with a 40 inch waist).
‘Size diversity is something that’s relevant and continues to be on everybody’s mind’, IMG president Ivan Bart told WWD. ‘We have to extend the conversation for men.’
Bart later added that the aim was for the average man to look at Zach and to believe that mayve they too could be model material.
It’s a clever strategy, and one we can’t believe hasn’t happened sooner – with female models like Ashley Graham and Tess Holliday now storming the catwalks, it seemed silly that men of different shapes and sizes were being left out of the equation entirely.
Plus, let’s all remember that the average waist size for a man in the US is 35 inches. We mean, come on.
‘Brawn has a body positive message. Brawn is physical strength’, IMG states.
Let’s hope we see a whole host of new male faces who don’t necessarily boast a six-pack storming the industry soon.
