What It’s REALLY Like Filming A Sex Scene…

From ‘vag pads’ to lighting arrangements – actors reveal the (unsexy) art to getting it on with their co-star on screen…

Daniel Radcliffe admits he fell in his love with his girlfriend, Erin Darke while filiming sex scenes in the movie, Kill Your Darlings: “[The movie] is wonderful record of us flirting for the first time. There’s no acting going on – not from my end, anyway. There’s a moment when she makes me laugh, and I’m laughing as me and not as my character. She was incredibly funny and smart. I knew I was in trouble.”

Liam Hemsworth: “It’s always pretty awkward when you have to take your pants off in front of a crew and other actors. During the scene it’s fine, you don’t feel uncomfortable but as soon as it’s cut and you’re standing around in your underwear and you’re chatting to the crew, that’s when it’s weird and uncomfortable.”

Man Of U.N.C.L.E star Henry Cavill says: ‘A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts and I hadn’t rearranged my stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me and, um, it got a bit hard.’ He said he had to “apologise profusely” afterwards. ‘It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a b***r is it?’ he said. ‘No, not acceptable.’

Emmy Rossum: ‘We like it to be realistic but not real, but I wear something I call the ‘vag pad,’ it’s kind of a little triangular panty liner that you stick to you.’

Dave Franco: ‘You have 20 crew members who are also watching you do it, and of course, for me, I woke up that morning and had a giant pimple on my ass! I had to go to the make-up artist, who I had also met that week, “Can we go into the other room and you’ll put make-up, literally, on my ass?”‘

Jamie Dornan on working with Dakota Johnson in 50 Shades Of Grey: ‘If I was about to be doing something particularly heinous to Dakota, I would apologise in advance and say, “I’m probably not going to derive a huge amount of pleasure out of this. I want you to know that.”‘

Dakota Johnson: ‘Filming a sex scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment. It’s really hot – not in a steamy, sexual way. It’s just sweaty and it’s not very comfortable,’ she says on those sexy scenes with Jamie Dornan in 50 Shades Of Grey. ‘And on top of that, my hands and legs were tied, and I was blindfolded, and I was being hit with this bizarre tool. It was emotionally taxing. At first I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is the worst thing ever,’ and then I was like, “All right, let’s get on with it.”

Lena Dunham: ‘I stopped wearing the nude patch after the first season of Girls. There’s not one guy who works on that show who hasn’t seen the inside of my vagina. You glue it over your vagina. It gets sweaty and always falls off. My male co-stars, at the end of the day, don’t care.’

Rosamund Pike: ‘You’re alone with a man who’s not your husband who also has a husband… he’s in his underwear, you’re in your underwear, and you’re sort of dry humping on a bed.’

Ryan Gosling: ‘Actors become very professional and proficient about watching out for each other’s light and not stepping on each other’s lines,’ he says. ‘All of these things are artificial, and you have to strip that away if you’re going to achieve a sense of intimacy. In real life sex is messy…’

18 year-old Maisie Williams spills on filming her first sex scene in The Falling: “It was extremely awkward,” she says.”We went out for a couple of lunches and stuff just to get to know each other.

BUT Mindy Kaling says Hollywood is actually lying – filming sex scenes can actually be really fun. ‘Obviously onscreen sex is not actual penetrative sex, but, as any religious high schooler will tell you, simulating sex can be pretty damn enjoyable as well,’ she says. ‘People already think acting is the world’s easiest and most frivolous job. So we all have this tacit agreement to keep our traps shut about the world’s best job perk.’
