The actor was asked about his friends' divorce outside the UN yesterday, and he admitted that it was the first he'd heard of it...
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s split hasn’t only come as a surprise to us – their friends are also pretty shocked.
In fact, George Clooney seemed completely dumbfounded when he was informed that Angelina, 41, had filed for divorce yesterday.
The 55-year-old was asked for his opinion on the news while he was at the United Nations, to which he responded: ‘What happened?’
CNN‘s Richard Roth explained: ‘They’re divorced,’ before George said: ‘I didn’t know that.’
Richard continued: ‘She filed,’ to which the actor replied: ‘I feel very sorry then and they’re, uh… that’s a sad story and unfortunate for a family.’
Clearly attempting to find the right words to describe his feelings, he reiterated: ‘It’s an unfortunate story about, uh, about a family… I feel very sorry to hear that.
‘That’s the first I’ve heard of it, so…’
George and Brad, 52, have been close for years, having met on the set of Ocean’s Eleven in 2001.
But to be fair, he was at the UN for a round table on the refugee crisis with President Obama and lawyer wife Amal, so we guess he’d been a little too busy to check his phone.
Angelina filed for divorce from her husband on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. They’d been together for 12 years and married for two, and have six children together.
In a statement issued to People, Brad said: ‘I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids.
‘I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.’
Our thoughts are with the whole family at this difficult time.
