Game Of Thrones fans probably wish that the show could go on forever. But like anything, all good things must come to an end.
So far, we’ve been treated to six seasons of nail-biting drama, but you better start savouring those episodes – because show producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss warn that there might not be many left.
‘It’s two more seasons we’re talking about’, they told Deadline. ‘From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70.75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with.
‘Call it 73 for now.’
Hang on, so that’s only two more epic series of Game Of Thrones to come?! NOOOOO.
And if you were sitting there hoping that the boys might be bluffing, well, don’t get too excited. Because they seem pretty set, even though the final episode just banked the highest viewing figures ever.
Because the show is based on novels written by George R R Martin, but they’ve used up all the source material, the creators are now creating entirely new storylines.
‘The thing that has excited us from the beginning, back to the way we pitched it to HBO is, it’s not supposed to be an ongoing show, where every season it’s trying to figure out new story lines’, David said.
‘We wanted it to be one giant story, without padding it out an extra ten hours, or because people are still watching it.’
He continued: ‘We wanted to do something where, if people watched it end to end, it would make sense as one continuous story. We’re definitely heading into the end game now.’
Sob. We guess we’ll just have to make every episode count, eh?
