It’s tipped to be one of this year’s biggest dramas, so we’re mega excited to see the first picture of Helena Bonham-Carter and Dominic West playing one of Hollywood’s most famous couples in the upcoming BBC biopic, Burton & Taylor.
Penned by Made in Dagenham writer William Ivory, the glamourous feature-length TV film will focus on actress Liz Taylor, played by Bonham-Carter, and Richard Burton, played by West, and their tumultuous romantic relationship in the 1980s.
In the new promo shot released by the BBC, the pair are pictured in rich, colour-coordinated shades of blue and purple, with Helena sporting immaculate Taylor-esque make-up while dripping in jewels and fur. We predict a Gatsby-style flurry of copycat trends once this hits our screens!
Taylor and Burton first met on epic historical blockbuster Cleopatra in 1964. After being married for ten years, the couple divorced before tying the knot once again the following year. They also adopted a German daughter, Maria. Their 12 year on/off relationship may have been full of conflict, but despite their issues as a couple, Liz once said of her husband: “I was still madly in love with him until the day he died.”
The one-off drama is set to air on BBC Four later this year.
