After its success at the Sundance Film Festival, the hip-hop enthused coming of age drama Dope is finally out in cinemas today.
And it’s literally the coolest film to see this summer – from the retro fashion choices to hot newcomers (the lead, played by relatively unknown 20-year old Shameik Moore, is phenomenal in it).
Oh, and Pharrell Williams and Sean Combs produced it and Zoë Kravitz stars. Need we say more?
Ultimate 90’s fashion inspo…Think layered chains, Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air tees and a whole lot of swag. The costume designer, Patrik Milani, modeled the character’s clothes on iconic music stars – from Aaliyah to Run – D.M.C. Patrik’s shopping tip? “Ebay is a great thing – but thrift stores, too.” Noted.
The Producers…It’s produced by hip-hop legends Pharrell Williams and Sean Combs aka. P. Diddy. Cool points? A zillion.
It’s Girl Crush Central…24 year old Victoria Secret model-turned-actress, Chanel Iman is making her acting debut. And we’re totally obsessing over Zoë Kravitz right now – who plays the feisty, and uber stylish female lead, Nakia. Wardrobe goals.
The Superstar Rapper… A$AP Rocky (Chanel Iman’s ex beau) is putting down the mic to show off his acting chops, where he plays a gangster.
The Hot Newcomer…We’re buzzing about rising star Shameik Moore, 20, who stars as a high school misfit, Malcolm. The film follows him and his pals as they fall into the murky underworld of the Californian drugs scene. Next up? He’s set to star in Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated Netflix series
