It was a big weekend for Demi Lovato.
The pop songstress performed at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, which saw some of music’s biggest names – including Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez – grace the red carpet.
But, Demi was also presented with the Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Awards, which is given to ‘media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance’.
Not only that, but it was handed to her by one of her oldest and closest friends, Nick Jonas.
Taking to Instagram to explain just how much the moment meant to her, the Confident singer explained, ‘Last night I was given the Vanguard award from GLAAD and one of my best friends presented it to me with words that totally made me cry.. That friend is my brother @nickjonas and I’m so thankful for our friendship. Love you and thanks for last night’ [sic].
Her fans were quick to congratulate her, with comments including: ‘You are such an inspiration’ and ‘congratulations’.
During her acceptance speech, Demi also gushed about her boyfriend, who wasn’t able to attend the ceremony because of filming commitments.
She said, ‘Last but not least, I want to say thank you to my love that can’t be here tonight.’
The 23-year-old went on, ‘His name is Wilmer Valderrama and I’m so proud to be his girlfriend.’
Demi expressed her goal: ‘To be a voice to my generation’.
She explained, ‘I always knew that if I ever made it as a singer, that I needed to use my voice for so much more than just singing.’
We think you’re doing a pretty good job of that, chick.
And clearly, we’re not the only ones…
