David Beckham is officially our hero. The footballer has made headlines and melted hearts this morning as the realisation of his latest move sinks in.
In case you missed the big news – David has announced that he’ll be moving to Paris for the next five months to play for the team Paris Saint Germain – and will donate every penny of his whopping salary to charity. Better yet, a children’s charity. Excuse us while we swoon…
He made the announcement in a press conference yesterday, telling the world’s media that he’d swapped LA Galaxy for Paris Saint Germain in a £150,000-a-week deal.
He said: “For me it’s always been about playing football, I considered other offers on the table. But one of the reasons I wanted to come to Paris was quite unique.
“We’ve decided my salary will go towards a local children’s charity in Paris and that’s one of the things we’re very excited and proud to be able to do. I’m not sure it’s been done before but it’s something I’m very passionate about. I’m pleased that we can give a huge sum to a children’s charity in Paris – it’s very special.”
No, YOU’RE very special, David. Sigh.
He admitted that Victoria and their children Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, 10, Cruz, seven, and 18-month-old Harper won’t move to Paris with him as the boys are settled into schools in London.
He said: “I am excited it’s something that we’ve been talking about for quite a while and now it’s finally happened. My wife and children will be staying in London because the children go to school there now.”
