Daisy Ridley is not about that fake Instagram life, people.
In a world where celebrities pop up on our Instagram feeds with their flawless ‘no make-up selfies’ on a daily basis, the Star Wars star has decided to go against the grain.
And by that, we mean that she wants you to know that what you’re seeing in her latest ‘natural’ selfie is NOT what it seems.
The 24-year-old posted a cute close-up photo of herself looking undeniably gorgeous, all glowing skin that looks lit-from-within and big Bambie eyes.
‘I woke up like this #nofilter #nomakeup’, Daisy captioned the image. Except, well, that was a lie.
Because in the accompanying caption, the A-list actress explained that she was actually attempting to shatter the illusion of what’s real and what’s edited.
‘3 of these statements aren’t true’, Daisy wrote to her 1.7 million followers. ‘Social media is great but also a bit scary cause what people post is the most filtered, most carefully chosen and cleverly edited moments of their lives. And self esteem is a huge issue for people around the world.’
Explaining that what you see on the red carpet doesn’t reflect what she looks like day-to-day, Daisy added:
‘My skin isn’t great so I don’t post no make up selfies, much as I’d like to; I have a trainer urging me on in workouts and don’t include all the times I say “I can’t do it” and I don’t smile all the time but I like to share the pictures where I am.’
‘But I actually do love myself, I try to think good thoughts always and am surrounded by the most wonderful people, so I’m keeping it balanced (like the Force, obvs). Just thought I’d say.’
Seriously powerful. And totally refreshing to see such a huge star owning up to (and owning) her insecurities, just like the rest of us. YES, Daisy.
