Daisy Ridley. Expect to hear that name a lot over the next few months. As Star Wars fever reaches peak excitement, with everyone rushing to see Star Wars: Episode IV – The Force Awakens this weekend, everyone is whispering about Daisy. She’s the 23-year-old acress who bagged the part of Rey, who, is the first female lead in a Star Wars film… ever. We told you she was a big deal, didn’t we? Yep, while we’ve had female characters in the films before (even if you’ve never seen one you surely know of Princess Leia) Rey is said to be a super kick ass gal who more than stands up to the male leads. It’s enough to get anyone excited!
But who is Daisy? We did a little digging to find out…
This Is Her First Film Role Ever
Yep, you read that right. The reason you’ve not seen Daisy in much before is because, well, she’s not been in a film before. No pressure then, none at all.
Dating Is Hard As A Star Wars Star
Advice from Princess Leia herself Carrie Fisher warned Daisy of the dating perils that lie ahead. “It’s hard to date once you’re a big Star Wars, because you don’t want to give people the ability to say ‘yeah I slept with Princess Leia. I was like ‘great advice,’ Daisy recently said.
Her Middle Name Is Jazz
Born for a life into showbusiness, right? Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley was born 10th April 1992 in London.
She Caught The Acting Bug Off Her Uncle
Daisy’s Great-Uncle was actor and playwright Arnold Ridley, from classic comedy Dad’s Army. Not heard of it? Ask a grandparent. They’ll fill you in.
She Was Cut From The Inbetweeners
Daisy was set to be in The Inbetweeners 2 but editors completely cut her part!
#StrongNotSkinny Is Definitely Her Game
Daisy spent five hours, five days a week working out to prepare for all the action scenes in the film. “It’s the only thing structured in my life right now,” she revealed recently. “Training is a sort of therapy session.”
Her Dog Is Called Muffin
And he’s really cute.
She Has Something In Common With Kate Winslet and Orlando Bloom
One of her earlier TV roles was in Casualty following many an A-Listers footsteps. She also got to rub shoulders with a certain Mr Selfridge with a brief part on the show. She recently revealed that bagging the part in Casualty felt a bigger deal than the Star Wars role! “Casualty will always be my first ‘oh my God’ moment as an actor,” she said. “I was over the moon. I grew up with it in my house.”
Careful What You Say About Her Online
After posting a video of her fitness regime Daisy was hit by some negative comments (from people who don’t have eyes, we presume). Instead of shrinking away and feeling bad about herself, she removed the video and posted a response saying how hurt she was by them – reminding the trolls she is a real person. Gooooooo!
Your Secrets Are Safe With Her
If you bagged the part of the year you’d want to tell everyone right? Well Daisy couldn’t. She wasn’t allowed to tell her friends and instead shared her news with just her mum and sister… who then went on and blabbed to their friends!
She’s Making Star Wars Feminist
Rey is said to be the first female lead in a Star Wars film – ever. And she’s taking her role really seriously. “Rey is so so strong,” says Daisy of her role. “She’s cool and smart and she can look after herself. Young girls can look at her and know that they can wear trousers if they want to.”
