Did You Know About This Coronation Street Rule?

The soap's actors have to follow some *pretty* strict guidelines when it comes to sunbathing...

Being on a soap is pretty cool, right?

You’re on millions of people’s TV screens most nights of the week, and you get to act out dramatic storylines that (hopefully) will never happen to you in real life.

But Coronation Street‘s Shayne Ward has admitted that there is one downside to the job – although it’s a bit of an unexpected one.

As we all know, we’ve been experiencing a rather lovely heatwave here in the UK this week. Of course, Shayne, 31, was keen to enjoy the sun just as much as the rest of us. However, Corrie bosses weren’t so sure.

He captioned a Twitter photo of himself outside in a vest on Tuesday: ’30 seconds of sun for me. Time starts now.⌛️ Continuity rules. @itvcorrie.’

A few minutes later, he told followers: ‘There we go… Caught a bit of sun. Now back to the shade.’

So why exactly aren’t the Corrie cast allowed to soak up the sun? Well, as Shayne explained, it’s all about continuity.

Seeing as the show is filmed so far in advance, it’d be a tad weird if Shayne was rocking a summer tan when episodes go out set in autumnal Weatherfield. Not only that, but it’s filmed out of sequence, so actors’ skin could end up changing shades from shot to shot. Awks.

Shayne isn’t the first person to open up about this rule. Michelle Keegan ended up in a bit of a sticky situation when she headed to Dubai with hubby Mark Wright before filming her death scenes as Tina McIntyre.

Michelle Keegan had a bit of a tanning issue in Corrie days

At the time, she told the Manchester Evening News: ‘I’ve only got four more weeks left on Corrie and so it will soon be the death scenes, so I literally need to be as white as a sheet.

‘I was only away for a week and wore the highest factor sunscreen to protect my skin, but I just tan so easily. The only problem now is I need my tan to fade – and fast!

‘I’m praying there isn’t more sunshine in Manchester in the next few weeks, because I’m going to have to stay indoors if there is.

‘If I don’t fade it will just be a case of lots of make-up to make me look paler.’

We bet she’s enjoying getting to jet off as often as she likes now, eh?
