Beyonce and Jay-Z have lost a court battle to try and trademark their daughter’s name, Blue Ivy.
The showbiz couple filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office to protect Blue’s uber-cool name after her birth in January, but they’ve been told today that they have no legal right to keep it just for themselves.
It is thought that the pair were keen to launch a range of baby products and clothes using their daughter’s name – but a wedding planning company already uses the name, and has been doing so since 2009.
The owner of the company, Veronica Alexander, said: “I can’t be frustrated with something I think is going to bring me to produce and define my brand even more, which is financially exciting in itself and intellectually exciting as well. It’s like they caused me to create more opportunity for myself.”
However, she DID say that she would “welcome” an offer from the couple to give up the rights to the name.
Hmm. Sounds like someone’s playing hard to get! RM
