Amal Clooney (the woman, the lawyer, the legend) must be feeling pretty happy with herself today after it’s been revealed that she has some very interesting news.
The Human Rights Lawyer, 37, who also happens to be married to George Clooney, 54, is now being honoured with a scholarship in her name, organised by human rights foundation 100 Lives.
So what does this new scholarship mean for the winner? It means that each year, a female student from Lebanon will have the opportunity to head to the UWC Dilijan College in Armenia to enroll in a two-year study program.
As a leading human rights barrister and campaigner, Amal Clooney is an inspirational role model for young women around the world. She exemplifies integrity, compassion and dedication
and typifies what it means to be a global citizen across all cultures.
” said Ruben Vardanyan
, co-founder of 100 LIVES and UWC Dilijan College, an international co-educational boarding school hosting students from 64 countries
100 LIVES recognizes the need for future generations to have greater cross-cultural understanding. The college strives to make education a force for peace by bringing together aspiring young leaders from all over the world.
The first winner has already been chosen and Pamela Tebchrany – a Lebanese student who graduated top of her class – will be pursing her interests in human rights and women’s equality at the college.
“This scholarship will give young women from Lebanon the opportunity of a lifetime,” says Amal Clooney. “Cross-cultural learning and studying abroad can be transformative. I am very grateful to 100 LIVES for helping to open doors for these bright and talented young women.”
100 Lives is an organisation committed to raising awareness on the impact of genocide and mass atrocities worldwide. It also happens to be the organisation behind the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity (which aims to recognise those that put themselves at risk to enable others to survive) which Amal’s famous husband George Clooney, XX, is also involved with. As co-chair of the prize, he will be presenting the £67,00 prize the winner on 24 April 2016.
Is there nothing that these two can’t do?
