If you (like us) are not exactly a morning person, there is finally proof that getting up early for work is totally unnatural. A study has revealed that working a 9 to 5 day just isn’t good for us biologically. Told you so.
According to Dr Paul Kelley at Oxford University, forcing people to do traditional work hours every day is akin to “torture”, and leaves our bodies exhausted and stressed as a result of sleep deprivation.
Apparently, the age of 55 is key. After this magic number we start to need less sleep, but if we don’t get enough shut eye before that age then it can really start to mess with our internal body clock.
Dr Kelley explains that we can’t change our natural circadian rhythms. “You cannot learn to get up at a certain time,” he said. “Your body will be attuned to sunlight and you’re not conscious of it because it reports to hypothalamus, not sight.”
