How Kylie Jenner met her make-up artist on Instagram

If the lip filler controversy taught us anything, it’s that Kylie Jenner takes great pride in her appearance *understatement*. She really knows her stuff when it comes to beauty and was never going to settle on just any celebrity make-up artist.

The 18-year-old star gave the coveted job to a virtual unknown. She found Ariel Tejada on Instagram, and the 20-year-old has been responsible for her contoured glow ever since.

Speaking to Allure magazine, Ariel described the moment Kylie got in touch with a number and message that said, “‘Look, whenever you’re in L.A., I want to work with you, let me know.”

Ariel explained: “I was traveling when I saw the message, and [I didn’t reply until] 14 minutes later, so I was like, this is late! I’m not going to get a reply back! I messaged her back, ‘I’m available whenever. I’ll fly out tomorrow if I have to.'” Ariel didn’t get a reply for three days.

“My anxiety was next-level” Ariel added. When Kylie finally replied, he said he would be in L.A. the next week. Then more time went by without a reply from Kylie. She finally text him asking for help with make-up for an event she was going to. Ariel went over to her house and said that “it was the most welcoming hello. She hugged me as if we had known each other forever. We glammed, and we made magic. She loved it. She couldn’t stop staring at herself in the mirror.”

Ariel explained that the pair work as a team. “That helps me as an artist,” said Ariel. “Because when I finish the make-up, and she’s added her touches, and I’ve added my signature stamp on the look, it becomes this explosion of the two of us mixed together.”
